We did ‘furry creatures’ at my drawing class a few weeks ago, and this is what I worked on in between helping the students. Whilst it was interesting to try and draw convincing fur, it can become very tedious, so it’s good to limit the fur, or the accuracy that you try to capture.

This week’s object is the Window. An object in it’s loosest term, the window is something that can make houses look quite varied from one another, so I am eager to learn how to draw lots of different types.

This week’s Tribute is to another cartoon animal, the character who in my opinion is probably the best animated character of all time – Gromit from Nick Park’s ‘Wallace and Gromit’ films. Gromit has no mouth, and therefore never speaks. All his emotion has to come through his body language, and most effectively through his eyes and eyebrows. For a piece of Plasticine, Gromit is an insanely emotive character.

Daft Character #28! Eyes are interesting. If a face has eyes but no other features, you will still connect with that face in a way you wouldn’t if the face had all other features but eyes. Obviously eyes and nothing else is incredibly creepy, but the more you draw eyes different to how we perceive them, the more creepy them become, such as the eyes in my drawing here. Not too creepy, but just a little unnerving.

This was a piece of concept art I made that was going to be coloured and included in a series pitch I worked on at university called Comic Strip City. The idea of the show, was that each episode of the series was split into different ‘comic strips’, small episodes including different characters, but they all lived in the same city so sometimes interacted with each other in crossovers. One of them was The Slipman, who was a Batman type hero who appeared to save the day and then slipped away. I wanted to create villians quickly so I based them all on nursery rhyme characters, here being Jack and Jill. Beyond sending it to the BBC, I never did anything with Comic Strip City, but I still think it’s a good idea for a show.

This week’s Object is the lamp. I’m liking doing Objects because there are just so many different types of the things we have around our houses. I love that we’re not content with the way something looks, and we always want to find new ways of making the same thing.

Daft Character #27! I was away last week so didn’t do any blog posts, but I’m resuming this week till late December, where I’ll stop over Christmas.

tribute-13

This week’s Tribute is to Daffy Duck, created by Tex Avery and Bob Clampett. Daffy starred in Warner Bros.’ Merry Melodies and Looney Tunes cartoons and is probably one of the greatest animated characters ever made due to his insane energy and charisma. Just find and watch the animated short Duck Amuck if you don’t believe me.’You’re dessspppicable.’
