When I was about nine or ten I discovered Captain Underpants books by Dav Pilkey. A series of children’s books that I felt incredibly inspiring to read as it focused on two children who wrote their own comic books about a superhero called Captain Underpants. You could actually read their comics in the stories and what was great about them was they looked like they’d been made by kids with wobbly drawings and bad grammar. This gave me extra confidence to make my own comics and not worry so much. Even now when Dav Pilkey brings out a new book I’ll still go and buy it! This is because I find myself feeling excited and inspired just as I did when I was a kid. And it just so happens, there’s a new one out today!
